March 17, 2012 – Sebring, 4:30pm ET – Florida – Halfway through the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the Flying Lizard No. 44 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is P10 in combined WEC/ALMS GT and the No. 45 is P13. It will evidently be the 11 or less hours of Sebring for the Lizards as the No. 45 – with Joerg Bergmeister at the wheel – was collected at race start, before even taking the green flag, by the No. 58 Luxury Racing Ferrari. The No. 45 sustained heavy damage to the left rear and was stranded on course for nearly 30 minutes before officials could get it back to its garage. Once back in the garage, the crew worked rapidly to replace the 45’s entire left rear suspension and shock, rear axle and repair bodywork. The Porsche was back on course just under the 1 hour mark – but now 26 laps back on the combined GT leader.
Over the next five hours, the Lizard drivers cycled through their stints – with Seth Neiman starting in the No. 44, then Darren Law, then Andy Lally. After Bergmeister returned to the race and completed his stint, he turned the wheel over to Patrick Long, then Marco Holzer. By the six hour mark, Darren Law in the No. 44 had moved up to P10 and the No. 45 is P13 – with Joerg Bergmeister again behind the wheel and now 25 laps down on the GT leader – the No. 77 Porsche. These results are combined WEC/ALMS GT.
