July 6, 2013 – Lakeville, Connecticut – Flying Lizard followed up a strong qualifying effort with a win at Lime Rock Park today, with the No 45 Venezuela / eSilicon Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car driven by Nelson Canache Jr. and Spencer Pumpelly taking the checkered flag over two laps ahead of its nearest competitor, Nelson's first win in the American Le Mans Series in only his 5th start in the series. The sister No 44 PR Newswire / eSilicon Cup car, driven by Dion von Moltke and Seth Neiman, led for much of the race before eventually finishing in 6th place after an unavoidable incident in which another car turned down on the No 44 through Lime Rock's fast Downhill Turn.
Nelson started from the pole after Spencer's excellent qualifying effort, leading for half his stint before being caught by Dion in the No 44. The duo ran 1-2 for the remainder of their stints until the race's first caution. From there, Spencer took the No 45 to the finish with Seth climbing aboard the No 44, eventually turning it back over to Dion for the last 30 minutes of the race and the run to the checker.
Spencer echoed Dion's comments, adding "We put in so much work over the break to come back ready to fight for the rest of the year, and it resulted in a perfect day for the 45 car. Nelson drove an excellent opening stint and gave me the car in the lead, the car was set up perfectly, the pit stops were lightning fast, and the team put me in a position in which I could just take it home for a win."
The team next takes to the track at the fifth round of the 2013 ALMS championship, the Grand Prix of Mosport, at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park on July 21st. The team will again field two cars, the No 44 and No 45, in the GTC class.
