Flying Lizard Announces that Wolf Henzler will Join Johannes van Overbeek in the No. 45 Porsche
April 19, 2006 -- Sonoma, California -- Flying Lizard Motorsports announced today the addition of Wolf Henzler to the team's driver lineup. Henzler will join Johannes van Overbeek in the team's No. 45 Porsche, replacing Jon Fogarty, who is leaving the team to drive with GAINSCO/Blackhawk in the Grand American racing series. Henzler's first race with the Lizards will be the American Le Mans Series' Grand Prix of Houston, May 12. In addition to his new role with Flying Lizard, Henzler will continue his Grand American series season with Tafel Racing.
Henzler commented on joining the Lizard squad, "I'm looking forward to running with the Lizards in the ALMS and would like thank Tafel for their support in making this possible. This year at Daytona I had a chance to share a car with Johannes and I am confident we'll make a good team. The Lizards showed their endurance strength this year at Sebring; with such a competitive GT2 field in the ALMS it's going to make for some spectacular racing."
Henzler, a native of Germany, has been on the pro sports car racing circuit for more than 10 years. For the last six years, he has focused on Porsches in the U.S. and Europe, notably winning in GT the 2005 Rolex 24 at Daytona with Farnbacher Racing and finishing fourth in the 2005 ALMS GT2 championship with BAM! In 2004, he was Porsche Michelin Supercup champion, second in the Porsche Michelin Carrera Cup, and second in class at the ALMS 2004 Petit Le Mans with Alex Job Racing.
Fogarty has driven with the Lizards since 2004. In 04, he was a guest driver with the team at Sebring, Petit Le Mans, and Laguna Seca. He partnered with van Overbeek for the 2005 season (finishing third in the ALMS Drivers' championship) and with van Overbeek and Marc Lieb for the 2006 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in which they finished second in class.
Seth Neiman, Flying Lizard principal and driver added, "Jon will be missed. He made a key contribution to the team's growth while here, and we will always think of him as a Lizard at heart. We wish him the very best with his new drive and his new baby boy."
Next up for the Lizards is the Grand Prix of Houston, May 12. For more information on the race and the team, see www.lizardms.com.
