Qualifying for the American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Mosport was washed out due to the heavy rains caused by the encroachment of what once was Hurricane Ernesto onto the ex-Formula One circuit. Times for the starting grid will be based on aggregate practice times from Friday and Saturday.

Officials decided not to risk having the cars push hard through an extremely wet qualifying session, noting the number of spins and off-track excursions there were during practice and the supporting Star Mazda and Formula BMW series races.

"You cannot believe how easy it is to fall off," said James Weaver, who grabbed the pole for his Dyson Racing Lola team. "There were two tricky parts to the track: standing water, and it was extremely slippery."

Weaver, in the P1 class, had set a time of 1:06.843 in practice, and will team up in the race with Rob Dyson, maybe, and Butch Leitzinger, maybe. Leitzinger was elsewhere today and was trying to make his way to Mosport, "by planes, trains, and automobiles," said Dyson, in time for the race.

When asked about his chances of arriving on time, Dyson joked, "If you see someone walking in the pits shortly before the race that looks like Butch, then it probably is Butch." Weaver and Leitzinger are the defending champions.

Second on the grid will be the P1 championship-leading team of Rinaldo Capello and Allan McNish, who set a time of 1:07.088 in practice in the diesel powered-Audi R10.

Behind them comes the first of the P2 class cars, the Penske Porsche of Lucas Luhr and Romain Dumas. Their time of 1:07.221 was not far off the faster P1 cars.

In 4th is the second Dyson Racing Lola of Chris Dyson and Guy Smith, with a time of 1:07.254. They are followed by the second P2 car, the other Penske Porsche of Sascha Maassen and Timo Bernard, who also kept the field close, with a time of 1:07.382.

The first of the GT1 cars sits 9th overall, and it's the 009 Aston Martin Racing of Stephane Sarrazin and Pedro Lamy with a 1:13.056. They were followed by their teammates in the 007 car, Tomas Enge and Peter Kox, who did a 1:13.574.

After all the GT1 cars, came the entire field of GT2 cars, led by the Risi Competizione Ferrari of Stephane Ortelli and Johnny Mowlem, who posted a 1:17.964. G2 championship leader Johannes Van Overbeek, with teammate Marc Lieb could only post the 5th fastest G2, and 17th fastest overall time.
