SONOMA, Calif. (July 19, 2004) --Dale Earnhardt, Jr., was released today from the University of California-Davis Medical Center after suffering moderate burns Sunday morning when the car he was driving was involved in an accident and caught fire while practicing for the American Le Mans Series Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma at Infineon Raceway.

Earnhardt suffered what track medical officials described as "moderate-sized burns of moderate intensity" in the facial area and lower extremities. For precautionary reasons, he was transported by air to the University of California-Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Calif. He is scheduled to return home today and is expected to make a full recovery.

The NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series will be in Loudon, NH this weekend at New Hampshire International Speedway. Currently, Dale Jr. is second in the Series point standings and is scheduled to be at NHIS for this weekend's events.
