#23 Lotus / Alex Job Racing Lotus Evora: Bill Sweedler, Townsend Bell, Johnny Mowlem
Eric Gilbert
ATLANTA, Ga.– Johnny Mowlem was once again back racing the Lotus Evora GTE, but this time in the American Le Mans Series finale at Petit Le Mans, competing for the first time with Alex Job Racing.
As Lotus's sole factory driver, this weekend's race gave Mowlem a chance to evaluate the program’s progress in a racing situation, matched against some of the best racing teams in the world.
Along with co-drivers Townsend Bell and Bill Sweedler, Mowlem and the Evora finished 24th overall in the 42-car field and 11th in the GT category.
“Clearly, the preparation work of the Alex Job team is top class, which I knew would be the case,” Mowlem said. “The car’s reliability was evident and Yokohama brought some new tyres to try which helped give them a clear direction to work in during the off season.”
During the 1,000 mile, nine-hour race, the Evora completed 360 laps, finishing 11th in the GTE Pro class, and would have finished much higher if the AJR Lotus hadn't lost 11 laps to a broken right rear toe-link resulting from contact with the Falken Porsche early on in the race.
"That was a shame in terms of its effect on our overall result", said Johnny, "but I take my hat off to Townsend and Bill for great drives. They are working hard both in and out of the car to make
this program a success".
“Road Atlanta has high speed corners, elevation changes and a lot of ways to bring out every strength and weakness a racing car has,” Mowlem said. “The Evora handled the racing stresses well.”
Mowlem looked back at the season and added, “Thanks to all of our racing partners, we’ve made performance strides this year. If we make progress at the same rate next year, we’ll be very competitive.”
