Pagenaud top of the pops with race fans

The remarkable recent achievements of de Ferran Motorsports driver Simon Pagenaud have been rewarded with a top accolade from motor sport fans.

The impressive 25-year-old French sportscar ace has been voted May's 'Driver of the Month' by a resounding majority of AUTOhedbo readers and RMC Radio listeners.

After being short-listed by the knowledgeable editorial staff of French motor sport weekly AUTOhebo (France's leading racing magazine) and French radio station RMC, Pagenaud received nearly 60 per cent of the votes to take the coveted prize.

In April and May, Pagenaud won three sports car events with victories in the American Le Mans Series at Long Beach and Utah with co-driver Gil de Ferran in the No. 66 XM Radio de Ferran Motorsports Acura ARX-02a, and in the Le Mans Series at Spa with the factory-run Peugeot 908 squad. He took pole positions at Spa and Utah, too.

"It's a big honor as this comes from the fans," admitted the delighted Frenchman. "It's nice to know that people are following what I'm doing in the States. Thanks to Gil and the guys at Acura my career has really progressed in the last couple of years. Back in May it was fantastic for me to race both the Acura and Peugeot. They are two of the best sportscars in the world and that makes a driver's life at bit easier!"

Far from sitting on his laurels, Pagenaud has kept on winning. Last weekend he rejoined de Ferran Motorsports and was the race and pole winner in the American Le Mans Series Northeast Grand Prix. Next up he will attempt to score his and the team's fourth straight ALMS triumph on Saturday, August 8, at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
