Team ADT Champion Racing will return to Sebring for the opening round of the American Le Mans Series next month buoyed by a successful test this week (31 Jan-2 Feb).
The reigning American Le Mans Series champions fielded its star-studded driver line-up for an intense, three-day test in preparation for the 53rd Sebring 12 Hours on 19 March.
The Audi Sport North America backed Champion Racing team, which receives additional support from Audi Sport UK for the Sebring and Le Mans 24 Hour (18-19 June) races, topped the time-sheets in all six sessions for the official ALMS "Wheels Down Winter Test" at the Florida track.
Six-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen ultimately set the fastest time, a 1min 46.590secs (124.95mph) around the 3.7-mile, 17-turn circuit - 1.828secs inside his own lap record. Kristensen (Den) shared the #1 Audi R8 with reigning ALMS champions JJ Lehto (Fin) and Marco Werner (D).
Tom remarked: "Champion Audi has a very strong driver squad while the speed and reliability of the Audi R8 is well proven. The team itself and all six drivers gelled well together during the test."
Meanwhile Allan McNish, like Kristensen an Audi "works" driver in this year's DTM, set the fastest time in the #2 ADT Champion Audi R8 - a 1min 46.820secs (124.696mph). McNish (GB), fellow 2004 Sebring 12 Hour winner Frank Biela (D) and Emanuele Pirro (It) shared their Audi.
"We completed our test programme which means we return in six weeks in very good shape for the race," confirmed McNish.
Both Audis ran faultlessly in clocking up almost 2,500 miles. The team worked through a vigorous tire program with Michelin which saw all six drivers evenly matched.
The Florida-based team, bidding to earn Audi its sixth consecutive 12 Hours of Sebring race win, has finished second in this race for the past three years.
