The closed-top “coupe” version of the DeltaWing competed in its first race and nearly finished the 2-hour, 45-minute event before mechanical issues ended the car’s day less than 30 minutes from the conclusion. Still, co-drivers Katherine Legge and Andy Meyrick logged 66 laps and more than 200 miles of valuable track time.

Bridgestone Tire Performance

The DeltaWing used two Potenza tire specifications in the race: the new specification designed for greater durability and the previous “hard” compound specification that performed so well last month at Road America. This provides Bridgestone Motorsport a wealth of data for developing DeltaWing’s tires for the remaining two ALMS events.

Andy Meyrick, co-driver, #0 DeltaWing LM12 Elan: “I’m very encouraged by the whole week. The car has shown tremendous pace on occasions, it’s just unfortunate that we didn’t make it quite to the end. All the issues that you’d expect with the coupe, we didn’t experience any of them. It’s a good starting point to move forward from. We would have had no problem double-stinting the Bridgestones, which would have been the first time that we’ve comfortably been able to do that. So that’s a nice step. We used the race to try a new tire from Bridgestone and that was a nice improvement as well. As I say, it’s a starting point with the new car and it’s a pretty good place to start.”

Katherine Legge, co-driver, #0 DeltaWing LM12 Elan: “It gives us a platform to work from for the future. We made some positive steps forward. In the race, we got a good test done with trying different compounds of tires and I think we learned which worked best and what we need moving forward. I think we found the direction that will work with the coupe, so we can come back stronger at VIR (next month).”
