Bizarre. Love. Triangle.

Latest picture on my screen saver 2012-10-24: Motorsport.com art director Eric Gilbert presents the photos that he actually uses as screen savers (and that he has actually shot, also). He presents those photos on his personal Facebook page and is now sharing them on Motorsport.com. Enjoy.

American Le Mans Series, Petit Le Mans, 2012-10-20.

Bizarre. The DeltaWing (shown here in the glorious Road Atlanta sunset) has to be the most bizarre race car design ever, along with the Tyrrell P34 six-wheeler (as well as the 'other' six-wheeler, the Williams FW08D) and the Brabham BT46B fan car (using ideas from the Chaparral 2J). In fact, even radical designs such as the 78-82 era F1 wing cars and other weirdness such as the Lotus 88 twin chassi s are tame, in comparaison. The DeltaWing seems to defy every laws of racing physics.

Love. Like anything radical, the DeltaWing is either loved or hated. Personally, I love it. Simply because it is different in a world of copycats and uniform designs. It represents what racing was about in its golden age: pushing the technical edge of the envelope.

Triangle. Everything seems to be triangular on the DeltaWing. Starting with its very own shape. The nose, the roll hoops, the rear stabilizer, the rear-wheel fenders: triangular shapes everywhere. But the coolest has to be those triangular rear lights - so cool that they match the texture and orange glow of a sunset light on a race track.
