BAR1 Motorsports and the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron returns to action this weekend at Lime Rock Park for the annual Northeast Grand Prix.
The team rejoins the hunt for the Prototype Challenge Championship with Kyle Marcelli with Chris Cumming driving the No. 8 Evident Capital car and Tomy Drissi with Rusty Mitchell driving No. 7 The Wolverine [movie] car.
The ALMS has been on the traditional Le Mans break since Laguna Seca back in May. And while BAR1 took advantage of the time to do a thorough refresh of both cars, the team also announced their partnership with AutoMaxUSA.com entering The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship Powered by Mazda.BAR1 debuted the new spec L2 car June 9th at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio at the Diamond Cellar Classic. This was the first new spec L2 car entered and raced in the series since the 2013 rule change.
Driven by team owner, Brian Alder and sponsored by Auto Max USA, Premier Graphics and OMP, the car took top honors in both races and set a new track record along the way. While Alder has experience in all facets of sports car racing, this was his first time participating as a driver.
Alder was extremely pleased with his performance at Mid Ohio and is now anxious to get back to the ALMS Championship chase.
"We are excited to get back to action after the long break. Although we've really made the most it.
"We had a very productive test in June, and a successful race weekend at Mid Ohio where we made our teams first appearance in the IMSA Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Series."
Set in the lush hills of Lakeville, Connecticut, Lime Rock Park is 1.5 miles up hill and down. The track appears deceivingly simple, though it is a serious challenge to get around the circuit quickly. With nearly forty competitors running in five different classes, you need to run clean and be patient.
Alder is very optimistic about the team's chances this weekend.
"Lime Rock has been a good track for us. We had a fast car last year with Kyle qualifying at the pole position. So, we're confident we'll have a strong showing this year with both cars."
"Tomy and Rusty will be running The Wolverine movie livery on the No. 7 car and it looks great.
The American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park is set for 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 6 with live coverage on ESPN2 and ESPN3.
