SEBRING, Florida - Audi Sport North America is ready to take on the American Le Mans Series Superflo 12 Hours of Sebring with two of its R8 racers under the management of Joest Racing, one of the world's most success endurance teams.

The Audi Sport effort at Sebring will include two-2000 R8's for Michele Alboreto, Frank Biela, Rinaldo Capello, Tom Kristensen, Allan McNish and Emmanuele Piro. The European driver line-up was chosen to capitalize on the group's experience in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

"We are looking to build upon our brief success from 1999 where we raced to a third place finish at Sebring," said Len Hunt, vice president, Audi Sport. "We believe we have the resources, the team management and the commitment that will help us to join the ranks of Sebring race winners. Since Audi has never won this event, this accomplishment would be extra special as Sebring celebrates its 50th anniversary."

"The team has had successful test sessions in South Africa, Charlotte and Sebring in preparation for the 2000 ALMS season," said Reinhold Joest, owner Joest Racing. "We are confident that our 2000 R8 will help us to improve upon our results of 1999. We have put a lot of miles on the R8's V-8 twin turbo and have realized excellent drivability and reliability."

"The car is very comfortable to drive, the combination of the Joest chassis and Audi V-8 really make a great package," said Frank Biela, driver of the number 77 Audi Sport R8. "The testing has allowed the team to come together and the drivers all really seem to have complimentary driving styles which is important when sharing the same seat for an endurance race."

"The ongoing improvements of the Sebring facility and the track surface is helping to bring this event back into prominence," said Tom Kristensen, driver of the number 78 R8. "I tested the 2000 R8 here 10-days ago and I think our car is well suited to this track and we are enthusiastic about our chances of winning."
