Fort Worth, Texas, The Audi S4's of Derek Bell and Michael Galati qualified eleventh and thirteenth in an abbreviated qualifying session for round six of the Speedvision World Challenge Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.
The session was black flagged, lasting only two laps, following an engine explosion in one of the Vipers. There is a possibility that qualifying will be continued in lieu of morning practice tomorrow.
The 2.324 mile modified oval circuit is proving to be a horsepower track. Corvette's, BMW's and Mustang's make-up the top five qualifying positions for the one-hour race. With over 90% of the NASCAR oval being utilized it is difficult for the S4 Competition to showcase its superior handling capabilities.
Michael Galati, Champion Audi/S4 Competition: "The car really ran well for the first time this weekend. The team has done a nice job getting rid of the miss in the engine from yesterday. We were only able to do one lap, but we qualified pretty well for this track. "
"We will need to run in the top ten in the race and hope for a top five finish to maximize points."
Derek Bell, Legends of Motorsport/Audi S4 Competition:
I was following Michael and he went wide in turn five bringing all kinds of debris on the track, which forced me to lift. If we could have completed the full qualifying session we could have gone at least a half second faster."
"For the race we need to hang around the front. In this heat there is going to be a lot of car problems causing competitors to drop out."
Rod Bymaster, manager, Audi Sport North America:
"The qualifying session did not prove to much. It is great that we were able to figure out the problem with Michael's car, now we have to drive a clean race and be around at the end."
