Auburn Hills, Mich. - Derek Bell and teammate Michael Galati, are ready to return to the track after more than a month off for round eight of the SCCA Pro Racing Speedvision World Challenge GT series race at Laguna Seca Raceway this weekend.
Galati is coming off of a convincing win at Portland in the teams last race. His win has kept him on top of the field in the drivers standings with 204, some 30 points over second place. "We were competitive last year at Laguna, so we should do well. It is nice and fast so we can keep up the momentum of our heavier cars. We really need a good set-up on the car to be able to run at the front," said Galati.
Teammate Derek Bell, driving the Legends of Motorsport /Audi S4 Competition, has moved up in the point standings to 11th through consistent top 10 finishes in the last couple of races. "We qualified well and I had a good race there last year, I was running in the top three. The car is capable of doing well at Laguna. We have improved the car a lot since since last year, so we should improve our results as well."
The Audi S4 squad is coming up on the last two events of the year with next months race at Road Atlanta being a double header. "We are nearing the end and Michael is doing all he can to win the drivers championship and Derek has really come on these last couple of races. We need a couple of solid finishes to win both titles the drivers and manufacturers, it should be interesting down the stretch," said Rod Bymaster, manager, Audi Sport North America.
The Speedvision GT race from Portland will be televised on Friday, August 24 at 9:00 p.m. EDT on Speedvision. <pre> Speedvision GT Driver's Standings: 1. Michael Galati Audi S4 Competition 204 2.
