Sebring, FL - Several hundred Highlands County school children participated in the Sebring 50th Anniversary Art Contest. The theme was to create artwork welcoming race fans for the Golden Anniversary Mobil1 12 Hours of Sebring Presented by Dodge, March 13-16.
All drawings will be distributed at hotels in the Sebring area and placed in rooms during race week to welcome race fans.
"This is a great way for children to become involved with the event, and at the same time have every hotel guest greeted by a custom drawing welcoming them to Highlands County," stated Sebring Raceway Director Tres Stephenson. "There were many clever drawings submitted and we know fans will really enjoy this special welcome."
Judging was handled by the Highlands County Art League. The winner of the K through Grade 2 group was Carisma Darthard from Sun 'n Lake Elementary (teacher Mrs. Wolfe). Second place was awarded to Lindsey Hammortree at Cracker Trail Elementary, and third place to Kaylee Tuck at Sun 'n Lake Elementary.
Winner of the Grade 3-5 group was Kurtis Ast, of Fred Wild Elementary (teacher Mrs. Johnson). Second place was awarded to Caroline Davidson from Cracker Trail Elementary, and third place honors went to Charity Jefferson of Woodlawn Elementary.
All winning entries will receive special prizes from Sebring International Raceway. The first place winners will be featured in the souvenir program for the race.
