Genoa Racing Focused on Reclaiming the Points Lead at Mid-Ohio

After their fourth consecutive American Le Mans Series podium finish at Mosport, Genoa Racing heads to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course aiming to extend that streak to five. Sitting just six points behind LMPC class leader Core Autosport in the season championship, another strong performance at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge could vault Genoa back atop the standings.

Round five of the American Le Mans Series Championship--Presented by Tequila Patrón from Mosport was a triumph of strategy for the Genoa squad. While multiple LMPC competitors ran out of fuel in the closing minutes, Genoa's Christian Zugel and Eric Lux executed the team's fuel tactics to perfection, bringing the No. 63 green dot/p.u.r.e./ZaisGroup ORECA FLM09 prototype to the finish line in third place.

The team now heads to Mid-Ohio with their focus set on improving upon their third place finish just last year.

The Mid-Ohio circuit is one of the iconic road racing facilities in North America. The many nicknames that denote sections of the track, such as "The Keyhole", "Madness", and "Thunder Valley", are firmly a part of American racing lore. Its 13 turn, 2.258 mile layout is both lightning fast and highly technical, featuring blind corners and rolling hills. The uniqueness of the track makes it a favorite of Genoa driver Eric Lux.

"I have always enjoyed racing at Mid-Ohio, and I believe both Christian and I will have a great race there," said Lux. "Genoa Racing always gives me an excellent car and they have been phenomenal on their race strategies. This weekend, I want to keep the pressure on the championship leaders and tighten the gap in the points."

Genoa's Chief Mechanic Steve Ragan echo's Lux's opinion of the circuit and the outlook for their performance this weekend.

"I think we were competitive last year, so the car will be good," Ragan said. "It's a 2:45 minute race, which is one of our shorter races, but it's still important to prepare the same way. We've got to be there at the end, as we proved at Mosport. We finished on the podium because Genoa Racing did their homework and our fuel program was spot on.

It's the same approach at Mid-O. You go there and you have to basically do better than everyone else in everything from race strategy to chassis setup to fuel and pit stops. I think our chances are as good as anyone else."
