American entrepreneur Don Panoz believes "Adelaide¹s Race of a 1000 Years" scheduled for new years eve, 2000, will become one of the jewels in the crown of the American Le Mans Series which he founded this year.
"The series attracts a huge following in the U.S. and that is spreading all the time," Don Panoz said.
"I have walked the circuit yesterday and I believe these cars are going to put on an amazing spectacle.
"Until you have stood on a corner at Le Mans at night and seen the glowing brakes and flame coming out of the exhaust, it is hard to image what it is going to be like.
"Adelaide will get all the spectacle of Le Mans without having to get a passport and an air ticket.
"This city has a great motorsport history and I think we have made the perfect choice for the location of our race in Australia."
SA Tourism Minister Joan Hall is pleased to welcome Mr Panoz back to Adelaide and is looking forward to working with the American entrepreneur to promote the State overseas.
"It is wonderful to have Don Panoz in Adelaide again to put the finishing touches on negotiations for what promises to be such an exciting event for South Australia," Mrs Hall said.
"Don Panoz¹s announcement as joint winner of the John Bolster Award for Technical Achievement at the prestigious Autosport awards in the U.K. last weekend is proof we are dealing with an internationally recognised racing identity."
New Year¹s Eve is traditionally a time for partying and celebration, but the final night of the year 2000 will present a unique celebration never before seen.
Adelaide will host the final round of the year 2000 American Le Mans Series, a new unique championship which captures the mystique, the spectacle, the speed and the passion of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Some of the world¹s finest drivers aboard an extensive array of the most spectacular and fastest racing cars in the world will only be the icing on the cake of this entertainment spectacular. Food, wine, fashion and a concert to usher in the new year complete "Adelaide¹s Race of a 1000 Years".
