LONDON (Oct. 9, 2012) – British racing star Johnny Mowlem will drive an Alex Job-prepared Lotus Evora GTE in this month’s running of the American Le Mans Series Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
"I have always had enormous respect and affection for Alex and Holly Job and their racing team,” Mowlem said. “Ever since I first started racing in the ALMS series back in 1999, and they were always the GT benchmark. Alex and I have spoken often about the possibility of driving for him, but for one reason or another, I've always ended up competing against him rather than for him, so I am absolutely delighted to be finally getting a chance to join his team.”
Mowlem has spent much of the 2012 season racing in Europe, but has raced an LMP1 car in the ALMS this year as well.
“I have been very interested in watching the AJR Lotus Evora GT, from afar, when racing this year in the LMP1 class of the ALMS,” Mowlem said. “The car has gotten better and better as the season has progressed.”
Team owner Job said, "We have known Johnny for a number of years, usually as a competitor within our class. He brings a familiarity with the Evora GT that we welcome.”
In addition to his experience in the Evora GT and the ALMS GT class, Mowlem also brings a history of 11 Petit Le Mans starts, including 4 class podiums and finishing second overall in the 2006 Petit Le Mans.
Mowlem said, “I raced the Evora at Petit Le Mans last year in the World Endurance Championship. The Road Atlanta circuit really suits the chassis. I am realistic enough to know that victory is highly unlikely, but I am optimistic that with the great preparation of AJR behind it, and the advantage of a 10-hour race where reliability and strategy can really play a part, that we have a chance at a strong performance in the final results.”
