Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca changes schedule due to Nurburgring 24H conflict

It is not often that a track will change their schedule due to the request of drivers. Yet Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has honored the GT racers request and that of the American Le Mans Series to change the 2013 weekend previously scheduled to take place in the Salinas / Monterey area of California.

Gill Campbell and staff were at the ALMS season ending race and Night of Champions celebration in Atlanta, GA. The Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca CEO/general manager was able to work out a change to the popular venue.

The original date on the 2013 calendar was May 16-18; which was a direct conflict for the 41st Nurburgring 24 hour race to be held May 17-20 in Germany.

The new 2013 event for the ALMS has been bumped up a week to May 9-11.

“The drivers who compete in American Le Mans contacted the Series requesting a date change for our event,” Campbell said. “We are pleased and honored that they felt so strongly about racing here that they asked for a date change so they would not miss the action and exhilaration this track provides.”

The event in May will be a four-hour endurance which now means that depending on the start time, it may no longer be a "daylight to dusk" challenge.
