IRWIN Racing's Lee Holdsworth has finished with a blistered right foot after a gruelling opening leg of the Clipsal 500 on the streets of Adelaide.
Holdsworth required medical attention post-race, which came on the back two lengthy pit stops where the IRWIN Racing crew had to fit make-shift heat shields on his race boot.
Despite all the heat related issues, Holdsworth showed plenty of character to bring the Erebus Motorsport V8 Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 home in 17th on its race debut.
Holdsworth moved as high as 11th after starting 23rd. The lengthy stops dropped him back down the order, but apart from the hot foot well, the E63 ran reliably through to the finish of a race that had no safety car periods.
The IRWIN Racing crew will work on a cooling solution for the peddle box area tonight, with Holdsworth confident he will be good to race on Sunday.
