Enzo Ide is making the move from AF Corse Ferrari to Phoenix Audi.
Following a 2012 season in the GT World Championship with Ferrari Enzo Ide is about to take on a brilliant double assignment in 2013. The young West-Flanders based driver will be competing in both the Blancpain Endurance Series and the FIA GT Series with Phoenix Audi, teamed up with fellow countryman Anthony Kumpen and reigning GT1 world champion, Markus Winkelhock.
For Enzo Ide a further step in his motorsport career, with a solid 2013 season in perspective and joined by one of Belgium’s most experienced GT drivers: Anthony Kumpen.
Enzo Ide: “It will be a strong season, that’s for sure. In fact the Blancpain Endurance Series is the European Endurance Championship for GT cars, with as pinnacle the 24 Hours of Spa.
In addition there are three races of 3 hours on the programme, in Monza, Silverstone and Paul Ricard, the season rounding off with the 1000 Kilometres of the Nürburgring.
It will be a complete inch by inch battle throughout seeing the level in the European Championship Endurance is extremely high. On the other hand the FIA GT Series is the successor of the World Championship GT, with sprint races of 60 minutes, spread over six meetings.
The most important rendezvous is undoubtedly the second race of the season here at Circuit Zolder. Competition here will also be pretty fierce, with amongst others the nine times world champion Sébastien Loeb at the wheel of a McLaren.”
As such Enzo Ide is making the move from AF Corse Ferrari to Phoenix Audi, a well deliberated step.
Enzo Ide: “Phoenix Audi is a top team, with a successful experience in the DTM and the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring. The team also won the 24 Hours of Spa last year, so no further references are required.
The Audi R8 LMS is also definitely the most successful GT of these last two years, and in fact in 2011 I won various races in the European Championship with it and in that same year the 24 Hours of Zolder also appeared on my record of achievements.
I believe that the combination of Audi and Phoenix, together with Anthony Kumpen, who is a driver with an enormous amount of experience, should result in us playing up front in both championships.
I‘m not going to make any rash statements about titles and victories, but to measure ourselves with the top and fight up front is quite plainly the objective.”
Anthony Kumpen is also fully convinced of this new duo’s chances:
“During testing with Phoenix Enzo proved his worth and I believe that together we have a great year ahead of us. In the Blancpain Endurance Series we will in fact be joined by the German Markus Winkelhock, reigning GT world champion and former F1 driver.”
Enzo Ide’s season kicks off on 31st March-1st April at Nogaro, in France with the start of the FIA GT series. “However all those wishing to see us in action before then should come on down to Circuit Zolder, on Thursday 7th March where they will be able to admire our new car.”
