Champion P1 contender Muscle Milk punted off track at Road Atlanta

Muscle Milk Pickett Racing started the Petit Le Mans race on the front row, and Lucas Luhr was the overall leader when he was punted off track and into a wall with suspension damage.

It was just past the one hour mark when the incident took place. Luhr was overtaking a slower GT Challenge Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car when the contact took place. Peter LeSaffre ended up stopped off the course in a safe location.

Luhr got out of his car to check the damage to the right rear of the HPD ARX-03a. He was able to take the #6 Honda back home to the pit area where the team can make needed repairs to keep the team in the race for the championship.

In order to take the title, Greg Pickett’s team needs to complete 70% of the race; and as we have already seen, one can never take into account what will happen on the track.

When he returned to the pit lane when Luhr was asked “What did you think when the car hit you?” His reply was “Shit”!

LeSaffre was the driver of the #34 Green Hornet Racing Porsche who hit Luhr, and the one who on Wednesday during open test, hit the Nissan DeltaWing.

Update: Klaus Graf took over for his teammate Luhr, and the Muscle Milk team is now 40 laps down from the overall leading Rebellion Racing Lola Toyota. They are making up lost ground.
