Penrith-based Turvey to feature for A1 Team Great Britain again at Brands Hatch this weekend
Penrith racing driver Oliver Turvey will have the chance to shine on the world motor racing stage again when he features for A1 Team Great Britain in the final round of the 2006-07 A1 GP World Cup of Motorsport at Brands Hatch this weekend.
Turvey impressed as he made his debut for A1 Team GB in the penultimate round of the A1 GP in China last weekend (April 13-15).
The 19-year-old was invited to join Team GB in Shanghai and produced a fine display in Friday morning's Rookie-Only session as he posted the third fastest lap time with a time of one minute 37.102 seconds.
Turvey, who won the 2006 McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year award, beat former Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan on his first appearance behind the wheel of the car and across the circuit and will take on the role of partnering regular Team GB driver Robbie Kerr in the Rookie sessions once again on home turf this weekend.
"I was pleased with third overall in the rookie session, my first time driving for A1 Team Great Britain," Turvey said. "The track was amazing and the facilities were great. It's an exciting circuit to drive, with not only high-speed turns but some technical low speed corners as well. It's a great opportunity for me to play a part in A1 GP and I'm looking forward to having the chance again to feature in the Rookie sessions at home at Brands Hatch."
Kerr assumed his regular role as he went on to represent Team GB in both races in China and won the sprint race before finishing second in the feature race.
Following on from his success in the Formula BMW UK last season, where he finished runner-up in the series, Turvey is contesting the Eurocup Renault and Italian Renault Championship with Jenzer Motorsport this year.
