A1 TEAM MALAYSIA GEARS UP FOR THIRD SEASON

A1 Team Malaysia will have three drivers present at the upcoming A1GP World Cup of Motorsport pre-season test at Silverstone on the 28 and 29August. Alex Yoong, Fairuz Fauzy and Aaron Lim will all be driving for the team as they prepare for the third season of A1GP. In last year's official test A1 Team Malaysia was fastest overall, with Fairuz Fauzy recording a lap of 1m 10.507s and the team is hoping to show further strong performances next week.

As the 5 month A1GP off season draws to a close, the two day test will be the first time the competing nations have gathered together at a circuit since the last round of season two at Brands Hatch in April.

Since the final round of the last A1GP season, the teams have been preparing for the new season ahead. All of the A1 cars have been in the A1GP Technical Centre at Silverstone where the teams have been inspecting their cars, stripping them down to check each and every component and then painstakingly rebuilding them for the season ahead.

During the two days of testing at Silverstone, the track time will be used by the team to run through a planned programme of car setup and development following the rebuild programme of the off season.

Yoong, Fauzy and Lim will share the testing duties evaluating the balance and handling of the car, working with the engineers to maximise their performance potential.

Yoong, steering the team to a sixth place finish in last season's Nations standings will be behind the wheel again in season 3, while rookie Aaron Lim will get another chance to show his potential after becoming part of the team during the final few races of last season in the role of the rookie driver during the Friday practice sessions.

Fauzy returns to the driving seat after a recent shakedown in the Spyker F1 car as part of his test driver duties for the team, as well as contesting the World Series by Renault championship race in Spa, in which he posted pole position for the race and finished on the podium in second place.

A1 Team Malaysia CEO Jack Cunningham commented, "The test is a good opportunity for our drivers to get re-acquainted with the car ahead of Zandvoort. We have a strong driver line up, with a good mix of experience and youth, which should benefit the team in terms of technical feedback and them pushing each other to go quicker.

We had a good season last year, we managed to finish sixth overall in the Championship, but of course we are always aiming to improve and hopefully we can finish higher this season. With this ambition in mind we have significantly strengthened our technical team in preparation for the new season with the addition of Greg Wheeler as Chief Engineer.

Pre-season tests are a good opportunity to see how quick we are against the other teams. A1GP is a level playing field; we all have the same chassis and engine, so whoever can make the most of these test sessions and find the 'sweet-spot' for their cars will have the advantage going to Zandvoort."

Malaysian regular Alex Yoong is eager to return for national duty. "I'm really looking forward to getting back in the car," said Yoong. "The team is geared up, morale is really high and we have good expectations for the forthcoming season. We hope that we can continue to develop and improve the car at Silverstone; hopefully we will complete the test on top of the time sheets as we did last year. This will put us on a good footing at Zandvoort where the season will start in earnest."

The all-team official test session for the 2006/07 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport takes place from 28 -- 29 August at Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, UK. The first event of the third season of A1GP will be at Circuit Park Zandvoort, Netherlands with practice and qualifying on 29th and two races on 30th September.

A1 Team Malaysia will announce this season's commercial partners in Malaysia on September 5 2007.
