Erik Janis looks forward to Malaysia
Erik Janis is going into his third A1GP - the World cup of motorsport event. He will represent Czech Republic in the Malaysian heat this weekend. He has not driven at Sepang yet but he is quite confident before his first overseas race. His belief comes especially from the October's Brno A1GP races that were his second event in the championship. Erik said after the race that he had learned a lot during the weekend and he would be therefore more confident in next events.
The Czech team flew to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian capital, on Monday. Twenty years old driver only welcomed the decision. First practices start on Friday as usual, so he will have a chance to acclimatize. "I want to do mainly jogging every day," says Erik. He accumulated one point in four races thanks to tenth place in the feature race at Zandvoort. Olomouc born driver is the only nominated driver for the Czech Republic.
The team led by Antonin Charouz experienced two different events in Malaysia in the previous two seasons. The first one in 2005/2006 season brought the first success to the team when Tomas Enge took third in the feature race. One year later the same squad had a completely different fortune. Enge was put out of the sprint race after an attack of other competitor and he managed only 14th in the main race after he had to start from the last row.
Erik Janis: "I have not driven at Sepang yet but I am looking forward to get there. I learned a lot during both races at Brno, so I believe that I will be able to fight at the front half of the field. I think that I should be able to score points in both races. I am happy that I flew to Malaysia already on Monday because it will give me enough time to acclimatize to a specific climate. Malaysian heat, humidity, downpours everything will be new to me but I am confident that I will cope with it well. I am working on my fitness all the time. I learned the track on computer and I like it." Internet: www.erik-janis.cz
Antonin Charouz, Seatholder: "I am really curious to see how Erill will drive. There has been a long break since Brno and Erik tested a lot with F3 and he will be also able to do all practices at Sepang, so he could find quicker pace. I was saying to myself before the season that after two or three events Erik should learn how to work with both car and team, so we have to wait and see if it will like this already this weekend."
