A1 Team Switzerland scores 12 points in Indonesia
Sentul (Indonesia), Sunday, 12 February 2006 A1 Team Switzerland finished the sprint and feature races in Indonesia in fifth place collecting a total of twelve points.
It was an exciting start for A1 Team Switzerland's Neel Jani who almost passed Mexico into the first corner. Using its power boost button, Mexico fought back and Jani ran most of the race in fourth. A daring move from Malaysia's Alex Yoong meant Jani had to make do with fifth place in the sprint race.
In the feature race Jani made his pit stop earlier than the team was expecting and lost time. Nevertheless he fought hard to get back up to fifth.
"I've struggled here throughout the weekend," Jani said. "I'm a bit disappointed we couldn't have done better in the sprint race. Just like in Malaysia I experienced a lot of oversteer and could not get rid of it. During the feature race, the potential and the speed were still there, but we lost some valuable time with my mistake around the pit stop that ended up to be the equivalent of a drive through penalty. After the problem in the pit stop I was determined to fight back. At least I scored in both races today and gathered 12 more valuable points."
Max Welti, team principal, A1 Team Switzerland commented: "Despite good teamwork, it wasn't possible to solve Jani's oversteer's problem during the sprint race. In the feature race, Neel used the first safety car period to come in to changing front damaged suspension. But he came in too early and to obey the regulations were forced to send him away and wait for another lap before asking him to pit. Later in the race he worked his way up the order. Overall, it was a good day for Neel who scored twelve more points thanks to his strong driving. We had two good starts and two good races considering the problems we encountered."
Team A1 Switzerland is still second in the championship with 104 ahead of Brazil (70) and Great Britain (68).
A1 Team Switzerland is one of 25 teams contesting the new A1 Grand Prix Series, the World Cup of Motorsport". After the "A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Sentul, Indonesia" A1 Team Switzerland is still second in the Championship with 104 points.
