Hyanari got the best result of his A1 career in the Sprint Race, scoring two more points for A1 Team Japan in the series tables. His race was hampered by a poor start from which he couldn't recover. He held eighth place for much of the race but a lock-up under pressure lost him another place to A1 Team Netherlands and left him with under-steer.

From there it was difficult to keep the pace but he managed to adjust his brake balance to help him maintain ninth place and finish to take A1 Team Japan's fourth points finish.

The Feature Race was not so productive. After another bad start Hyanari was heading to the first corner sandwiched between two cars. A1 Team Indonesia to his left turned in and hit his front wheel, pushing him into the car of A1 team Czech Republic. All three ended in the gravel and unfortunately that ended Hayanari's race.

Hayanari Shimoda
"It was a shame about the bad starts. The car felt good in race one but I just couldn't gain places. It's my best result which of course I'm pleased about. Race two was one to forget. I'll just focus on my best result of the season and winning points for my country. Indonesia has been my favourite event so far. I loved the atmosphere as well as the track itself. The fast corners and variety make it a great circuit to drive. I met a family of Japanese living here in Indonesia who had come to see the race which made it even more special."
