Today saw the A1 Grand Prix cars take to the track with the first official practice at the Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway. Two further sessions will be held tomorrow ahead of Saturday's qualifying for the races on Sunday. The weather has been a major talking point with torrential rain overnight being replaced by sunshine to dry the track, although the rain had washed dirt onto the racing line.

Temperatures are low and the snow-capped mountains make a spectacular backdrop for the racing action. With one hour of practice available, A1 Team Pakistan was determined to get maximum benefit and by the half way stage Adam had worked his way up to tenth in the timings.

Two red flags held up proceedings slightly but otherwise the session went well with Adam managing to notch up 30 laps of track experience. His times improved through the practice as he gained confidence in the track and car and on his final lap shaved a second off his time to finish 19th with plenty of time in reserve giving promise of a good qualifying result tomorrow.

Adam Khan "The track was quite dirty which wasn't the easiest of conditions to relearn the car. I was just getting a feel for the car and what it can do. I didn't want to push too hard -- there's no prize for testing times but I'll be pushing a bit harder tomorrow. The track was exciting as I expected but there were a few corners that could catch you out -- you lose grip very quickly. I'm happy with today -- basically feeling my way around."
