A1 Team France claims 5th position on day one in Laguna Seca

Laguna Seca, California/USA; Friday, 10 March 2006 Opener with obstacles for the tenth round of the A1 Grand Prix series in the United States: Heavy rain showers during the last days forced the organizers to cancel one of the two planned free practice sessions for today and to delay the second one until 4 p.m. The track was in bad condition with big puddles, mud and wet sand beside the course.

However it was no easy job for the A1 GP drivers: Dust on the track made it difficult to bring the power of 520-hp strong V8 engines of the A1 GP race cars on the ground. Nicolas Lapierre, who is at the wheel for A1 Team France in Laguna Seca, claimed 5th position with a lap time of 1,19.176 minutes. The 21-year old said: "We started the session on wet tyres, because it was too slippery for slicks. After a few laps it was possible to go for slicks and we changed the tyres. I mainly concentrated on learning the track which is quite interesting. Everything went fine and now we are ready for more work tomorrow."
