Sunday, 23 October 2005 - A1 Team Switzerland claimed two podium finishes at Estoril today. A strong drive from Neel Jani saw him finish third in the sprint race and second in the feature race. The rain that plagued the first day of practice was nowhere to be seen as both races took place in warm and sunny conditions.
Neel Jani commented: "I was really surprised when Nelson Piquet's was going fast and slow before the rolling start for the sprint race as if he wanted to block us. After Premat passed him I did not want to take any unnecessary risks and played it safe to get the podium. Piquet's car was very fast and potentially dangerous for us.During the feature race I started in third position, but lost one position at the start with the pace car. My pit stop was perfect and I raced hard to finish the race in second. The team did a great job with the set up we had two good starts and two good races. In the final part of the race it was quite easy to keep pace with France even if I couldn't pass Premat. At Eastern Creek, we'll have another go and hopefully we can win our first race."
Team manager Max Welti added: "Neel Jani did an excellent job today and drove a strong and intelligent race. He really deserves his 2nd place."
A1 Team Switzerland is one of 25 teams contesting the new A1 Grand Prix Series, the World Cup of Motorsport". At the second race at Estoril (Portugal) A1 Team Switzerland is now ranking third in the Championship with 34 points.
