Edoardo Piscopo grabs F.3 win at Misano shakes new A1GP racecar at Donington
Edoardo Piscopo was finally back to win at Misano, in the third-to-last round of the Italian Formula Three Championship. The driver from Rome ran strong under the torrential rain that hit the Adriatic World Circuit on Sunday: after taking a double pole position in Saturday's qualification session, he had to settle for 2nd place at the end of Race 1, but a convincing start on Race 2 enabled him to control the main rivals with ease and cruise at speed all-day long. The gap in standings was trimmed down to 16 points with 4 races to go.
Before traveling to Misano, Edoardo was also involved in the first A1 Grand Prix Of Nations collective tests of the new season. Aboard the Ferrari-powered car fielded by Team Italy, he hit the track under a thick rain at Donington, to start the new season's development and get used to the much-faster 08-09 machine.
"I finally got back to victory, as I found myself running really well in the rain. The weekend at Misano was quite positive, and even though 16 points are a big gap to close, we're really looking forward to Adria and Vallelunga, hoping weather will help us again in our attempt to come back to the lead. I hope to be a little more lucky too, since without the three DNFs we have things would have been different. The arrival of Dillmann might also be good for us, we hope he'll take points from our rival in standings. As for the A1GP tests, I found the new car to be extremely exciting to drive, it's fast and technical like a GP2. I hope to do some more testing, in order to continue the development and get more used to a faster and more complex vehicle than anything I have driven so far".
