MICHEL JOURDAIN JR. ADAPTS TO A1 CAR
The Mexican prepares himself for qualifying on Saturday
Mexican driver Michel Jourdain Jr. is in the process to adapt to A1 car, because in the last few years he has only driven touring cars. During his first laps at the 5.40-Km. (3.36-mile) of Brno he felt comfortable with the car and he prepares himself with his engineers for qualifying during Round 2 of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport that is held this weekend.
Executive Vice President of the A1 Team Mexico Julio Jauregui said: "Michel Jourdain Jr. is surpassing our expectations. We knew that the adaptation to the car was going to be difficult, but Michel adapted quickly in terms of braking and others. As he does more laps, he is getting used to more and more. On the last laps he did good times and with a new set of tires for sure he will be able to lower even more his times to get a better position during qualifying. We know that this is going to take time. The adaptation process for Michel has been quicker that we have expected. Therefore, in the team we are pleased and grateful to him with his performance."
On the other hand, the popular Mexican driver said: "From the first laps I liked very much this experience. I am very glad to drive the A1 car; it is a lot of fun to drive! I knew that this car for this track was going to be good."
And he added: "Obviously it was what we have expected, a very different adaptation of how to drive this car than what I have been driving during the last few years. Today it was the first day in the car and we have tonight to think and analyse all the information. I have to improve a lot, but that was expected."
"At the beginning it was kind of easy to adapt, but as long as you get closer to the top times is harder, as we are working on little things that are more difficult to do than others. We only have to analyse well the data with the engineers and see for tomorrow what we have to do to improve our times."
During the first segment of the rookie session, Jourdain Jr. was 16th fastest and his best time was 1'51.505. For the second segment he was 14th with a lap of 1'51.222, to be ranked 16th in the combined results for the rookie session. Later, in the second practice he was 20th with a lap-time of 1'48.882.
