A1 TEAM GREAT BRITAIN TOPS TEST DAY TIMES

Silverstone, UK, 3rd August A1 Team Great Britain led the way through the pit lane this morning, first onto the track on what is sure to be a historic day with the first team running of the World Cup of Motorsport. 15 nations took their cars onto the track for the first time on day one of a two day official test and by the time the chequered flag fell this evening, A1 Team Great Britain was fastest.

John Surtees, Team Principal was pleased with the team's result. "Today obviously is when the team has been together for the first time, both with people and with the machinery. It has purely been a learning curve because with the structure of this formula, where there is no massive advantage in machinery, advantages are gained through close relationships with the team and drivers and the tuning of the car. The testing is a question of putting together that knowledge and this is the first part of that curve. I can't emphasise enough that at this moment it is very early days. I won't complain about being top and we need to make sure that we repeat it - it's very encouraging for everyone involved."

Robbie Kerr was driving the car today and was also pleased with the first outing. "It went well. We're all learning how each other works. We took our time and did our thing. Towards the end we put new tyres on and it made a big difference. I had a lot more grip and could feel that the car was working better. With more work we'll learn how to get the times from new and used tyres. Improvements can be made both by me and to the car so we'll see how it goes tomorrow."
